WHAT?

INFUSION’s main goal is to demonstrate a resource recovery-based innovative treatment scheme to obtain biogas, nutrients, and reclaimed water from both landfill leachate and liquid digestate from organic fraction municipal solid waste (OFMSW)

HOW?

With a near zero-discharge process, following circular economy principles.

Technical Solution

WHERE?

At two waste management centres: Ecoparc 2 in Barcelona and COGERSA in Gijón, Asturias.

From September 2020 to August 2024

Work plan

WHY?

To close the loop between waste and resources in landfills and waste management plants and reduce the social, economic and environmental impacts. 

Expected outcomes

Recover energy, nutrients, and water from the landfill leachate and organic fraction municipal solid waste (OFMSW) liquid digestate.

Reduce the environmental impact of OFMSW liquid digestate and landfill leachate generated in MSW treatment facilities.

Disseminate the results of the project to other regions and extend the process to other sectors with similar effluents.

Demonstrate social, economic, technical, and environmental feasibility of the INFUSION solution.
