Mbolo, which means “union” and “working together” in Wolof, is a non-profit organization that has been working since 2010 to promote the green economy in Gambia and Senegal. They do this by addressing social injustice and climate change while providing empowerment spaces for women, youth, and children as agents of change through eco-social innovation, education, and climate resilience solutions.
Since its inception, Mbolo has been driving the Fandema project, which offers training to women aged 18 to 65 who never attended school or dropped out early. This training includes basic, occupational, and cross-disciplinary education, with a focus on environmental sustainability. This enables women to create decent job opportunities and become change agents within their communities, ensuring the social and economic rights of the community.
The AMB has supported Mbolo and several municipalities in the Greater Banjul Metropolitan Area since 2011 in implementing programs related to waste management and solar energy. For this reason, within the LIFE INFUSION project, it was decided to collaborate with the Fandema project to produce unique, custom notebook holders specifically for the LIFE INFUSION project.
These notebook holders have been handcrafted by women from the Fandema project, using screen-printing and sewing techniques. Their purchase contributes to the self-sustainability of the project, the prevention of textile and plastic waste, and the fight against climate change.
The LIFE INFUSION team, together with the women of the Fandema project and the MBOLO Association, are working together to build a fairer and more sustainable future.
