Yesterday, June 4, 2024, the LIFE INFUSION webinar “Innovative solutions for a water-resilient Europe” took place.
This online seminar, organized by the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona as the entity responsible for communication of the LIFE INFUSION project, and framed in the European Green Week, was a complete success with 68 people registered.
The objective of the day was raising awareness and contributing to the public debate around European, national and local water resilience. Attendees had the opportunity to listen to an inspiring presentation by Professor Rafael Mujeriego, president of the Spanish Association for Sustainable Water Reuse (ASERSA), ), who enlightened attendees about the new rainfall normality of the territory and showed us what has been done for years in other parts of the world. The seminar was divided into two different sections
Revolutionary projects:
- LIFE INFUSION: Irrigation of horticultural species with effluents rich in ammonium, from the anaerobic digestion of the organic fraction of municipal waste. By Rafaela Cáceres and Carme Biel, researchers at IRTA.
- LIFE SPOT: Green solutions for groundwater treatment. ByJofre Herrero, researcher at EURECAT.
- LIFE BAETULO: Integrated early warning system for the management of risks and multiple threats to guarantee adaptation to climate change. By Elena Veza, technician from the AMB, and Ángel Villanueva, director of Resilience and Climate Change at AQUATEC.
Local and regional successful projects:
- Water Saving Ordinance: reuse of water from greywater, rainfall and swimming pools. By Marta Oliver, technician of the Sant Cugat del Vallès City Council.
- GUARDIAN project, on using reclaimed water to increase resilience against fires. By Mateo Pastur, head of Technical Strategy at Cetaqua.
- Use of reclaimed water in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona. By Paco Salguero, head of operation of El Prat de Llobregat water regeneration station.
