The LIFE INFUSION project begins this year 2023 with new challenges and renewed energy. Last Friday, January 13, the first monitoring meeting of the project was held, with representatives of all members of the consortium. In order to recap the last year, we want to value the most relevant milestones achieved in the progress of LIFE INFUSION in 2022:
- The start-up of the operation of the Stripping unit in the Ecoparc 2 demonstration plant, operated by EBESA, with which a nitrogen recovery of around 50% has been achieved at relatively low operating temperature (45 ºC). This year the pending tests will be carried out at higher operating temperatures (55 ºC and 65 ºC).
- The start-up of the operation of the thermophilic anaerobic membrane reactor (tAnMBR), in which an approximate production of 2 m3 of biogas per m3 of effluent input has been achieved and a COD reduction of the treated effluent of more than 70%.
- The dissemination of the project in important congresses related to the environment, such as CONAMA, the Smart City Expo Word Congress and the IWA World Water Congress. In addition, the first online seminar “Circular solutions for waste and wastewater management” was organized, which had a great success of participation.
During the first part of 2023, It is expected to achieve the stabilization of the pilot operation at Ecoparc 2, incorporating the remaining stages into the process, among which the membrane contactors stand out, which will allow the recovery of nitrogen from the tAnMBR in the form of ammonium salt. By the end of the year, the pilot equipment located in Ecoparc 2 will be moved to Asturias to start up the pilot plant under the new operating conditions.
Finally, we said our warm farewell to our colleague Caroline Sielfeld, who is temporarily leaving the coordination of the project and to whom we wish the best.
